About Home Island Project
Shikoku is the smallest and least populous of the four main islands of Japan. The island has always been famous for its hospitality and spirits of cooperation originated from "Osettai" tradition - people provide pilgrims with free accommodation and meals, and thereby participate "88-temple pilgrimage" - as well as for its beautiful natural and living environment. At the present day, Shikoku has also got world-class art spots and companies. Moreover, outdoor leisure venues, eco-friendly practices, agri-business, and dietary education in Shikoku cultivate values for the 21st century.
We the members of HIP re-discovered such attractions of Shikoku after living away, and got together to share ideas and launch the project in January 2008. HIP aims at raising awareness about our home island Shikoku and turning it into magnet for people around the world.
